Planetary Transformation Project
Empowering Personal & Planetary TransformationOur Mission
In the midst of so many global challenges we believe that it is always better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. To that end we are dedicated to promoting positive change in the world in terms of peace, freedom, equality, social justice, gender equality, economic opportunity, environmental sustainability and most importantly the transformation of human consciousness which is the real foundation for creating a positive future. We do this by supporting those around the world who are dedicated to positive change by ‘lighting candles’ in the own communities with their various projects. Our areas of focus include Promoting and Supporting Conscious Leadership, Conflict Resolution, Marginalized Communities, Global Changemakers and Empowering At-Risk Youth.
Our Process
We pursue this mission by identifying and supporting those projects and individual change makers who already have a track record of success but are seriously under-funded and could be doing much more with additional support. Priority is given to those projects and/or individuals who incorporate a strong ‘consciousness transformation’ component to their work since we believe that this is the foundation of fundamental and lasting change.
Accountability
We have a strong belief in both transparency and accountability. We expect those we assist to provide quarterly financial reports as to how your donations were used and specifically what has been accomplished. We will be sharing all of this with donors via a periodic newsletter.
Our Areas of Focus
Promoting Conscious Leadership
Building on the success of the International Institute for Global Leadership (http://global-leadership.com) we are creating independent national and regional conscious leadership institutes, starting with those countries where we already have IIGL graduates and advanced students. We are working hand-in-hand with these students in recruiting, training, and mentoring grass-root leaders from diverse fields, empowering them with the skills and values to become conscious, ethical, and compassionate change-makers in their communities. IIGL has had a major impact on the lives of its students and has been the foundation for the spinoff of many projects serving local communities with very practical ventures. Check out the testimonials of the IIGL graduates as to how these studies have impacted their lives: http://global-leadership.com/index.php/students-testimonials. Or actually see some of their successful project such as these: www.springboardnig.com, https://www.icldng.org, https://www.kyusaug.org. We are building on that success and carrying it to the next level.
Teaching Conflict Resolution
We recognize how important it is that leaders have a strong foundation of skills in conflict resolution and working with groups. This project provides professional mediation and facilitation training, aiming to certify skilled mediators and facilitators who can not only mediate conflict situations in their own communities, but also establish themselves as self-supporting professionals available for service to companies and organizations.
Supporting Marginalized Communities
This initiative focuses on traditionally marginalized communities such as urban ghettos, rural poverty pockets, native/indigenous reservations, and similar communities. Local grass-root leaders will be identified and trained in the leadership curriculum and assisted in setting up weekly leadership classes which offer students not only information, but the opportunity to discuss how these teachings relate to their personal lives and the challenges in their communities.
Empowering At-Risk Youth
This classroom-based project with similar format & intent as that for the marginalized communities, but the focus will be a population group sharing similar experiences rather than common geography. It will provide hands-on leadership and personal development training for older youth & young adults who are are aging out of the foster care system or have had been involved with legal systems (detention, probation, etc).
Promoting Global Changemakers
Often overshadowed by fear-driven headlines, there are thousands of young individuals around the world who are quietly working at the grassroots level to bring positive change to the world. They have established programs and initiatives to tackle issues such as hunger, housing, education, environment, peace, and more, often at great personal sacrifice. Despite their unwavering commitment, they often live on the margins, relying on their own limited funds or contributions from friends and family to fund their projects. Our mission is to identify these changemakers with the best projects and most potential and to provide them with financial support so they can work freely without the constant concerns about their basic needs such as food and shelter. Who are these changemakers? Here are a few examples: https://www.ashoka.org/en-us/program/ashoka-young-changemakers

Our Team
Michael Lightweaver, Founder
In 2002, I grabbed the seat of my pants and using my credit card, I started the free, internet based, study program called the International Institute for Global Leadership (http://global-leadership.com/). I describe it as consciousness training through the back door. Although it is available to anyone anywhere in the world, most of our students turned out to be young Africans because they had the least access to books. Over these past 20 years I have seen the incredible transformation these studies have had in the lives of our students. At the end of 2012 I turned over the directorship of IIGL to others so that I could devote full time to the stewardship of Mountain Light Sanctuary, a spiritual retreat in the mountains of western North Carolina, USA. Now that this chapter of my life has closed, I am embarking on this exciting new venture: the Planetary Transformation Project. Since I have seen the profound effect that IIGL has had on the lives of the students and the many service projects they have created as a result of these studies, I have created the Planetary Transformation Project as a venue for extending these studies into new areas including other countries, marginalized communities and at-risk youth here in the USA as well as supporting young change makers around the world.

Kathleen Oweegon, Director
I founded my company, Bridges of Peace, in 1999 to provide facilitation, personal & professional development education, communication coaching, conflict resolution, public speaking and Emcee services throughout the U.S. and around the world. I have served on the Board of Directors of the International Institute for Global Leadership since 2004. In 2021, I began producing and hosting the 30-minute podcast, “Co-creating Peace”, to provide understandings and easily implemented tools for conscious communication and conflict transformation. The focus of my work is to help communities, organizations, and individuals become empowered to fulfill their greatest potential through dialogue, negotiation, and collaboration. This often involves bringing seemingly discordant voices together in collaborations that result in mutual understanding, increased wisdom, and growth. Serving as the Director of PTP is a natural extension of my Mission, and I am honored to be alongside Michael in service to the Mission of this fine organization.

You Can Make a Difference!
Will you join us in this transformative venture?
We see so much chaos in the world today and much of it is due to the consciousness of our leaders. We firmly believe that the kind of world most of us want depends on a shift in consciousness, both at the grass roots and with our leaders. Our efforts often seem so small in relationship to the challenges the world faces, but we always believed that it is better to light a candle, however small, than to curse the darkness. Join us with your monthly donation and become a catalyst for creating positive change in the world. With your monthly donation you can light your own personal candle for transforming lives and creating a positive future.
